Jared Paul Boulanger of The Sour Notes @ Mohawk - 4/6/2013

The Sour Notes like to keep busy, and 2013 has already seen them play SXSW and many other shows. They're also going to play NXNE and will release a new album (Do What May) before Summer is through. No rest for the weary...
They played the inside stage at Mohawk for The Kids Are Alright Fest on 4/6, and I was able to catch them before Marmalakes (pics HERE) (and before I went to Beerland for Feral Future and White Lung). Some pictures from their set are in this post.
You can see next them play the inside stage at Stubb's for FREE tonight (4/8) immediately following the Grizzly Bear show.

MS MR @ The Jr in old Emo's for BrooklynVegan SXSW 2013

""Old Emo's" is code for the place where the legendary rock club Emo's used to be before it moved to some distant region southeast of downtown Austin. Still, the shell of the old venue (and the memories that come with it) are still there, so Brooklyn Vegan seized on it to book a number of day parties full of blog-favorite acts. Two highlights were Autre Ne Veut, who kept the audience in a trance on the outside stage, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, whose psych-lite indie-rock provided a great respite from the loud and unruly crowds out on Sixth Street." [EW.com]You've already seen photos from the BrooklynVegan Saturday day party at old Emo's HERE, HERE and HERE. Here's one more set of some of the bands that played that day. It continues below...

Our Heart Aches For Syria Benefit @ Long Center - 3/15/2013

One of the many SXSW events BrooklynVegan had some part in this year, and the most random one, was the "Our Heart Aches For Syria" benefit at the Long Center on the Friday night of SXSW Music. Taking place near and after the Flaming Lips show at Auditorium Shores, locals The Young opened the Omar Souleyman-headlined night to an awkwardly small amount of people in an awkwardly large venue. More people eventually showed, though let's face it, this show should have been at a packed, rowdy 500 capacity space near 6th Street instead of inside a 2500 person theater off the beaten path (those who first conceived this event anticipated a bigger lineup with a bigger sponsor). That said, it was still a great lineup and a fun night, and it was Deradoorian's exclusive SXSW show, and possibly Deer Tick's only SXSW show, and a nice amount of money was raised for those in need. Here are some pictures. More below....

Pitchfork will be returning to Austin for a number of SXSW events, including two at Mohawk and two at 1100 Warehouse (1100 E 5th St.).
They've got a SXSW Interactive Official Showcase on Tuesday (3/12) at Mohawk at 8 PM with John Talabot, Cloud Nothings, Marnie Stern, Hundred Waters, Torres, and more; and a Show No Mercy metal show on Wednesday (3/13) at Mohawk at noon with Skeletonwitch, Trash Talk, Pallbearer, Royal Thunder, Pinkish Black, and more.
Then, they'll throw a free day party at 1100 Warehouse on Thursday (3/14) at noon with Youth Lagoon, Toro y Moi, Foxygen, Delorean, Andy Stott, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Mac DeMarco, White Lung, Parquet Courts, Merchandise, Waxahatchee, Autre Ne Veut, Rhye, and more; and an official showcase that night at the same venue at 8 PM with Rustie, Disclosure, Ryan Hemsworth, Savages, Pissed Jeans, and more.
That's the flyer for the Interactive showcase above. The rest of the flyers, full lineups, and set times for all four shows below...

BrooklynVegan is presenting three nighttime shows at SXSW this year, one of which is a special night with Omar Souleman and friends. To quote SXSW:
SXSW is proud to announce an interview with Syrian artist and cult international legend Omar Souleyman on March 15th from 5-6pm in ACC room 16AB. Omar will speak with Daily Dot Editor Austin Powell about the issues surrounding the devastating conflict in his home country, the evolution of the Syrian music landscape, and what the future may hold for himself and artists like him.BrooklynVegan is also throwing a bunch of day parties.Later that evening Omar will be joined by the amazing Black Lips, Deer Tick and more in a special performance at a Red Cross benefit aptly named Our Heart Aches For Syria. The show takes place at Long Center For The Performing Arts beginning at 9pm on Friday 3/15 after the Flaming Lips Auditorium Shores show. Donations are $10 with all money going to the International Red Cross's Syrian Arab Red Crescent. Please join us for a spectacular evening for a great cause. THIS SHOW IS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
