Shirley Manson of Garbage @ La Zona Rosa - 10/10/2012

Way back in April Garbage was forced to postpone their Houston and Austin shows. They did get to Waterloo Records for a Record Store Day in-store visit, but there was no music performance to be had in April.
It took almost six months, but they finally made it back to play a sold-out La Zona Rosa w/ tour mates Screaming Females. It was a great show, but not without a little bittersweet thrown in. As we reported earlier, the screamingest female herself, Marissa Paternoster, has been fighting mono for quite a while. It has taken its toll, and the show last night at LZR will be the last one for Screaming Females this year as all other 2012 dates have been cancelled.
During SF's set, Garbage came out on stage to hug and thank them for a great tour and speak their praises. Shirley is a very big fan of Marissa's, and made that clear throughout the night - including having Marissa come out for a duet on the first song of Garbage's encore, the Smith/Springsteen classic "Because the Night" (video below).
Check out more pictures from the show, Garbage's setlist, and a video from the encore below...

Jack White @ Radio City on 9/30/2012 (more by Greg Cristman)

Bob Mould @ BookPeople (more by Tim Griffin)

Alex Ebert (aka Edward Sharpe) @ ACL (more by Tim Griffin)

Jack White is having his taping this week on 10/14 during the ACL Festival, and you can enter to win tickets to that show on the ACLTV site (still available as of this post).
ACL TV announced two new tapings for Season 38 set for the first week of November:
We're pleased to announce two more tapings for Season 38 with a veteran and a rising star: Bob Mould on November 1 and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes on November 5.For fans of alternative rock, Bob Mould scarcely needs any introduction. The singer/songwriter/guitarist rewrote the rules of punk rock in the 80s with his band Husker Du and defined the sound of melodic alt.rock with his 90s power trio Sugar. He's also released a line of critically lauded solo albums that have ranged in sound from acoustic reverie to electronic dance music and everything in between. Following his highly regarded memoir See a Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody and a successful tour performing the classic Sugar album Copper Blue in its entirety, Mould has release his acclaimed new LP Silver Age, a high-volume reminder of Mould's mastery of melody, power and passion. We're thrilled to bring this pioneering rocker to the ACL stage.
Check out videos of all three below.

Menomena @ The Parish - 10/3/2012

Menomena are out on tour with PVT supporting their latest album Moms, and came to The Parish on Wednesday (10/3). Here are some pictures from that show.,
They also just released a new video for the opening track on the album, "Plumage". Director by Trevor McMahan shared some interesting background to the clip:
On the production of the video, he continues, "our crew weathered some serious acts of god during this production - including, but not limited to: a shooting, bomb squad evacuation, a news helicopter crash, thunderstorms, near electrocution by lightning (which can actually be seen in the last shot of the video), gale force winds, destroyed equipment, and flash flooding two shoot days in a row - and the video nearly missed seeing the light of day. It was almost as if Jesus did not want us to make this Menomena video. But apparently, we had more chest hair."Check out the video, upcoming dates, and more pictures from the Austin show, below...

Ben Nichols @ Red 7 - 9/10/12

Ben Nichols, frontman for Lucero, came to Red 7 with Mike Herrera for the Bike Riders Southern Ride. Billed as "BIKERIDERS SOUTHERN RIDE... BEN NICHOLS SOLO TOUR! MUSIC, MOTORCYCLES AND TATTOOS!", it delivered on all three.
Herrera, best known for his bands MXPX and Tumbledown, opened the night and led the audience right to Nichols' door. Ben stepped through it, and as always when he's in Austin, he was at home.
After being introduced by Texas' own ink master Oliver Peck, Ben paused for a moment saying he had no idea [where to begin], which quickly got a call out from the audience for "100 Miles!". A quick glance and an "O.K." later he began. An hour and forty-five minutes flew by and it was done, with laughter, drinks, constant sing-alongs from the crowd, stage dives, and even a guest from the audience joining Ben for a song ('My Best Girl') to finish out the set.
The tour continues through Saturday 9/15, after which Ben rejoins Lucero for their world tour covering North America, Europe, The U.K., and Australia. Lucero will be back in Austin for Fun Fun Fun, and will close out the year in N.Y. and N.J.
