Australian band Wireheads released 'Big Issues' (listen), playing NYC shows Memorial Day Weekend

Adelaide, Australia’s Wireheads make a brand of indie rock that seems particular to their country: boozy and unhinged, sometimes dissonant and shouty, sometimes twangy, with a drony violin pulling a through-line. You can hear shadows of Nick Cave, the Gun Club and Melbourne’s current “dolewave” scene on the band’s 2015 album, Big Issues, which the band made with producer Calvin Johnson at his legendary Dub Narcotic studio in Olympia, Washington. You can stream the whole thing, and check out the video for “Arrive Alive,” below.

Wireheads are currently in the U.S., having just played a few West Coast dates and will be in NYC this weekend for three shows: Friday (May 27) at Alphaville with B Boys, Surfbort, and Violent Video; then Saturday (May 28) at Shea Stadium with T-Rextasy, Fern Mayo, Anna Altman and Badmouth; and Sunday (May 29) at Silent Barn with Big Bliss, Old Table, and Suckling. Advance tickets for Alphaville and Shea Stadium are on sale now (Silent Barn is $7 at the door).
