Australia's RVG share "IBM" video, playing BV SXSW day party & other shows

Australian indie rockers RVG have just released a video for “IBM,” one of the many great songs from their excellent 2017 debut, A Quality of Mercy. The song is about someone who falls in love with a computer, complete with a dialup modem solo. Singer/guitarist/songwriter Romy Vager told Dangerous Minds, “I think when I was writing it I was purposely aiming to do something that was a bit more oddball, something like what Robyn Hitchcock would have written in the 80s. I don’t think i intended it to be about anything other than a quirky story but now it’s taken on a life of its own.” The video plays on the song’s lyrical ideas and you can watch that, and stream A Quality of Mercy, below.

RVG are currently in Austin for SXSW and are playing a bunch of shows this week if you’re there, including the BrooklynVegan and Margin Walker’s free Saturday day party at Cheer Up Charlies, where they’ll play at 3:15 PM. Saturday’s lineup includes Andrew W.K., Lucy Dacus, A Place to Bury Strangers and more (RSVP).

After SXSW, RVG will head to NYC to Rough Trade on March 19 with fellow Melbourne bands Totally Mild, Jade Imagine and Jess Ribeiro (tickets). They’ll stop in Los Angeles on their way back to Australia, where they’ll play the Bootleg Theater on March 28 (tickets).
