Automelodi prep first LP in six years (listen to "La Poussiere")

Montreal synthpop artist Automelodi is back with Mirages au futur verre-brisé, his third album — and first in six years — which will be out May 3 via Holodeck (the label run by members of S U R V I V E). Synthwave groups are a dime a dozen but Xavier Paradis, who is Automelodi for the most part, has both a deep understanding of the sonics of music like this, and a knack for melody and hooks. It is icy, but he imbues these songs and arrangements with a lot of feeling. (I was a big fan of Automelodi’s debut LP which was one of my favorites of 2010.) We’ve got the premiere of the album’s lead track, “La Poussière” (“Dust”), which is a great example of what Automelodi does so well. “La Poussière’ is essentially a reflection in which dust is just one of the metaphors for the inevitable, pervasive presence of one’s own death,” Xavier tells us. “It partly depicts a character going on a foolish, meaningless quest, like some confused Aguirre that somehow gets lost in the Sahara of The Sheltering Sky.” There’s a little bit of a Human League vibe going on here, and you can listen to the song below.

Automelodi will play a hometown show at La Sala Rossa on April 5 with Brooklyn’s Xeno & Oaklander, and has European dates in May (more still to be announced). All dates are listed below.
