awakebutstillinbed sign to Tiny Engines, playing SXSW (stream their LP)

San Jose’s awakebutstillinbed quietly released their debut album what people call low self-esteem is really just seeing yourself the way that other people see you in the beginning of January, and it quickly picked up some buzz within the emo scene. Now, just over a month later, they’ve signed to Tiny Engines, who will give the album a physical release soon. In the meantime, it’s on all digital platforms, and if you haven’t heard it, it’s worth checking out. It was produced by Jack Shirley (who’s worked with Joyce Manor, Jeff Rosenstock, and Deafheaven), and it sorta splits the difference between ’90s-style “Midwest emo” and harsher ’90s screamo, with vocalist Shannon Taylor jumping from a whisper to a shriek at the drop of a hat. Her voice isn’t really like much else out there, and it may take some getting used to, but the passion in it is undeniable. Listen to the album below.
