Awkwafina making 7 Train announcements for a week
Viral rapper turned Golden Globe-winning actress Awkwafina is adding another title to the list: subway announcer. Starting today (1/16), she’ll be the voice of the 7 train for a week, making announcements, perhaps telling you to stand clear of the closing doors, and delivering anecdotes about particular stops. The New York Post heard a few of the recordings:
“This is Mets-Willets Point, home of the Mets!” she says in one recording shared with The Post.
“I love the Mets — because I’m from Queens — and you’re riding the 7 train.”
The announcements will be on 7 trains traveling between Flushing-Main Street and 34th Street-Hudson Yards.
“Transfer to the Q53 Select Bus Service — tell them Awkwafina sent you! You won’t get a discount or anything, I just miss ’em,” she says in another.
“You are now entering Manhattan — hope you brought money!” she says.
Listen to a couple below.
The 7 takeover is to promote Awkwafina’s new Comedy Central show Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, which comes out on Wednesday (1/22). It’s already been renewed for a second season, as Deadline points out, and you can watch a trailer below.
