Bay Area band Legs releasing debut LP (video, dates)

There’s no shortage of bands making low-fi pop inspired by the ’80s output of New Zealand label Flying Nun or NME’s famed C-86 casette, but Bay Area band Legs are definitely making a superior product. Mind you the band’s Matt Bullimore is actually from New Zealand, so maybe it’s in their blood.

Whatever the reason, Legs’ debut album, Pass the Ringo (out 4/23 via Loglady), is jam-packed with great songs and sunny melodies tempered with fuzz. The band are capable of maneuvering the delicate balancing act between “charmingly shambolic” and “can’t play their instruments.” It’s definitely the former and reminds me of Television Personalities more than anything else.
