Beach Rats

Beach Rats (Lifetime, Bouncing Souls, Dag Nasty) playing debut shows, streaming song

Beach Rats — the new punk supergroup featuring Lifetime vocalist Ari Katz, guitarist Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Dag Nasty, Bad Religion), Bouncing Souls members Brian Kienlen and Pete Steinkopf on guitar and bass, and Bouncing Souls pal Danny Windas (aka “Dubs”) on drums — will release their debut EP Wasted Time on July 27 via Bridge 9, and they’re playing their first-ever shows a week before that. They happen at Asbury Park’s Asbury Park Brewery on 7/21 with Stag Party, Fuck It I Quit, School Drugs, and The Wilds ($10 at the door); and Philly’s PhilaMOCA on 7/22 with Fuck It I Quit and Luxe (tickets).

The band recently revealed the first taste of the EP, opening track “Lonely For The Night,” which is the kind of raw, melodic punk crusher that you’d expect from this lineup. It’s cut from a very similar cloth as a handful of classic albums by Beach Rats’ members’ more famous bands — they aren’t reinventing the wheel, but the wheel wouldn’t be what it is without most of these guys, so that’s totally fine.
