Beastie Boys' 'Ill Communication' turns 25 (watch a new documentary about it)

The Beastie Boys‘ fourth album, Ill Communication, was released 25 years ago today (May 31, 1994). It debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart, and contains such mid-’90s classics as “Sabotage,” “Sure Shot” and “Root Down.” To celebrate its 25th anniversary Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond sat down with music writer Nathan Brackett for a new documentary short, Still Ill, that also features interviews with producer Mario Caldato Jr, and lots of archival footage of the band making the record. You can watch it (via Amazon Music), and listen to Ill Communication and watch a few of the album’s videos, below.

In other news, Mike D and Ad Rock’s recent “Beastie Boys Story” live shows in Brooklyn are being turned into a special, so stay tuned for that.
