Ben Watt shares "Balanced On A Wire" from new solo album, announces tour

Everything But the Girl’s Ben Watt will release his new solo album Storm Damage on January 31 and he’s just shared the anthemic “Balanced on a Wire” from it. “My kids were teenagers leaving home for the first time when I wrote it,’ says Watt. “I was moved by their mixture of anxiety and determination. It reminded me of being nineteen myself, standing on the edge of something new, how you cope, how you need to open up when the other half of you is screaming ‘no’. And I realised I still felt like that now sometimes. Perhaps that feeling never really leaves you.” You can watch the video for the song, filmed at London’s legendary RAK studios, plus two other songs from the album (including “Irene” featuring Low’s Alan Sparhawk), below.

The “Balanced on a Wire” video also shows off Ben’s new “future-retro trio” who will be touring North America this spring, with stops in DC, NYC, Boston, Toronto, Ann Arbor, Indianapolis, the Chicago area, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The NYC show happens April 2 at Le Poisson Rouge and tickets are on sale.

All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, Everything But the Girl’s classic 1996 album Walking Wounded was just reissued on vinyl.
