Big Ears festival: full 2019 lineup (Avey Tare, Mountain Man, Punch Brothers, more)

The 2019 edition of Knoxville, TN’s unique Big Ears Festival has now announced its full lineup, which now includes This Is Not This Heat, Avey Tare, Béla Fleck, Mountain Man, Punch Brothers, serpentwithfeet, Gabriel Kahane, Moor Mother, and more.

They join the previously announced lineup of Spiritualized, Richard Thompson, Bill Frisell, Jlin, Mercury Rev, The Messthetics, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sons of Kemet, Bill Frisell, Jlin, Vijay Iyer, Meredith Monk, Nils Frahm, Lonnie Holley, Yves Tumor, and more.

Among this year’s special programming: Bryce Dessner‘s Robert Mapplethorpe tribute, Triptych featuring A Roomful of Teeth; composer and ambient icon Harold Budd will present three concerts and three world premieres; Rhiannon Giddens & Francesco Turrisi present the second-ever concert of “Lucy Negro Redux,” a collaboration with the Nashville Ballet and poet Caroline Randall Williams; and there’s a spotlight on groundbreaking women featuring Joan La Barbara, Kim Kashkashian, Rachel Grimes, Nicole Mitchell, Clarice Jensen, Kara-Lis Coverdale, plus “The Music Of Ashley Fure * Ellen Reid * Anna Thorvaldsdottir” and more.

Big Ears 2019 happens March 21-24 in downtown Knoxville. Weekend passes are on sale now and you can check out the full lineup below.
