Big Search releasing a new LP (stream a track ft. The Shins' James Mercer)

Big Search — the project of Matt Popieluch, who’s worked with Cass McCombs and used to front Foreign Born (where he was bandmates with Ariel Rechtshaid, who went on be a big-name producer) — is releasing his sophomore album Slow Fascination on April 12 via Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records (pre-order). The album was produced by fellow Cass McCombs collaborator Rob Barbato (who’s also worked extensively with Kevin Morby and used to be in The Fall), who also played guitar on the new single “Stillness In The Air,” which was co-written by Matthew Compton (of Electric Guest) and features guest vocals by James Mercer of The Shins and Kacey Johansing. It’s a catchy, airy indie rock song with an ’80s pop backbone, and the guest singers really add a lot to those big harmonies in the chorus. Matt tells us:

A lot of the lyrics were written in a dream while I was traveling in Sweden. I was hearing the music in the dream and watching this story unfold of two people meeting and going on a journey. I woke up to write down the lyrics I dreamt, but I was still in the dream. Then I actually woke up and wrote down the lyrics exactly as I had in the dream. It was Inception-like.

The new song premieres below. The forthcoming album also features contributions from Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear.
