Big Thief announce new album 'Capacity,' share new song, expand tour

Big Thief recently mentioned on Late Night with Seth Meyers that they’d be releasing a new album this summer. It’s the followup to last year’s great Masterpiece, is titled Capacity, and it drops on June 9 via Saddle Creek. The first single is “Mythological Beauty,” a delicate-sounding song that’s keeping hopes high for this new album. Its video is out now, and it’ll also be out as a 7″ single backed by non-album track “Breathe In My Lungs” on Record Store Day. The video features a cameo by Big Thief singer Adrianne Lenker’s mother (who was also on the cover of Masterpiece), and it was directed by Vanessa Haddad and Adam Gundersheimer. Watch below. Album artwork and tracklist below too.

Big Thief have also expanded their tour. They had already announced a NYC show opening for Saddle Creek vet (and current Nonesuch artist) Conor Oberst at Prospect Park on July 20 with another great current Saddle Creek band, Hop Along (tickets). Now they’ve also got a small headlining show in NYC happening on June 9 at Rough Trade. That’s a Northside Festival show, and it’s got Mega Bog opening. Tickets go on sale Friday (4/7) at noon with an AmEx presale starting today (4/5) at noon. Updated tour dates are listed below.
