Chicago R&B singer BJ the Chicago Kid releases his new album In My Mind today (2/19) via Motown. Unlike the futuristic alt-R&B that’s been in style and practiced by people like his neighbor and collaborator Jeremih, BJ the Chicago Kid pulls more from the classics. His soulful slow jams are fleshed out with keys, horns, crisp guitars and more live instrumentation, and the album’s guests are other people who favor those sounds like Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T. and Chance the Rapper. BJ was just announced for Pitchfork Festival, and he has other shows coming up too. He hits NYC for a ‘Hot 97 Who’s Next’ show on February 23 at SOB’s with Jay Watts. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
