Black Sabbath bench

Black Sabbath bench being planned in their Birmingham hometown

Black Sabbath, who played what they say is their last show ever in their hometown of Birmingham in 2017, are being honored in that very city in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary. BirminghamLive reports that there are plans for a stainless steel ‘Metal Bench’ to be handmade in the Jewellery Quarter area that will read: “Geezer. Ozzy. Tony. Bill. Made in Birmingham 1968.” These plans coincide with a proposal to rename a bridge on Broad Street to Black Sabbath Bridge, and have the bench positioned against the railings on that bridge. There is also a proposal to make drummer Bill Ward the fourth and final Black Sabbath member to be honored on the Walk of Stars.

“Plans to give the band and drummer Bill Ward their own Walk of Stars awards would enable pavement ‘stars’ for all members and the band to be realigned in the shape of a cross in front of the bench,” the BirminghamLive article notes. That’s a proposed rendering of what it would all look like above.

Mohammed Osama, an Egyptian consultant architect now living in Dubai who helped develop the idea, said: “If we get approval, all of the stars will be rearranged and the bridge itself will also be named after the band – the band members and their managements have been in the loop as well.” “My vision is to reunite the four original members for the unveiling of the stars and ‘Metal Bench’ (the crowning jewel of the whole project),” he added, before clarifying, “I mean just reunite them together at their hometown, no gigs or anything. Just the four of them being celebrated together at their home town would be the best ending and closure I could possibly think of.”

Meanwhile, Ozzy Osbourne has more farewell dates for his solo career planned through summer of 2019.
