Blind Pilot

Blind Pilot releasing 'And Then Like Lions,' touring (dates & "Packed Powder" stream)

Blind Pilot haven’t put out an album in five years, but that will change on August 12, when they release And Then Like Lions via ATO Records (pre-order). We’re premiering the album’s newest single “Packed Powder,” which is a nice dose of folk rock with lush harmonies, horn arrangements, and more. Here’s what frontman Israel Nebeker tells us about the song:

Somewhere in my teenage years my friends and I discovered that we could remove the black powder found in the tame and legal 4th of July fireworks we’d buy at the little stand by the beach, and repack it, yielding some stupidly dangerous and exciting outcomes. The idea took root as metaphor in my young self, trapped in a small town and yearning to see what his life would be: We’re all made of the same stuff, but who knows how we are packed and what we will show as we burn across the black sky of our own time? I still feel that intense, reaching desire, although it’s different now, as I notice the strange interplay of will and fate within the story. We try hard, through our jobs, our people, and our perspectives, to choose what will bring us closer to the ideal we see. But also we are simply stretching forward in our own dark, getting to discover what we are made of as we go.

Check out the lyric video and a live session video (filmed at Bear Creek Studio) below.

Blind Pilot are also touring in support of the album, including two NYC shows: September 20 and 21 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for both of those shows are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
