Blood Orange announces details of new LP 'Freetown Sound' (watch the trailer)

Dev Hynes has announced that the new Blood Orange album, Freetown Sound, will be out July 1 via Domino. The album, which is the follow-up to 2013’s Cupid Deluxe, also has a new trailer featuring archival footage of De La Soul, Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Atlantic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates. The album, which he has said was inspired by The Dust Brothers, is comprised of 17 tracks, none of which, which are currently, simply labeled Track 1, Track 2, etc.

Hynes gave this statement on the album’s origin:

I have just finished making an album about my life, my upbringing, being black in England, being black in America…my movement to this country at the age of 21, the same age that my mother moved from Guyana to London, and my father from Sierra Leone to London.Freetown Sound, the name of my album, is taken from Freetown where my father was born.

Blood Orange will play NYC’s Panorama festival in July. All tour dates are listed, along with the album trailer and cover art, below.
