Mariah Carey

Blood Orange & Slick Rick team for a song on Mariah Carey's new LP (listen)

Mariah Carey just released her first album in four years, Caution, and, interestingly, there’s a song featuring both rap legend Slick Rick and modern pop boundary pusher Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes). Dev produced and co-wrote the song and sings on it, and you can hear that his fingerprints are all over it. It’s a slow, atmospheric dose of R&B-pop, and Dev, Mariah, and Rick all sound silky smooth. Listen below.

Mariah is also touring, including NYC’s Radio City Music Hall on March 25 (tickets).

Slick Rick also has some shows coming up, including his 9th annual birthday show at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl on January 11 (tickets); and an All-Stars of Hip Hop show at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on January 20 with Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe Dee, Whodini, Onyx, and Nice & Smooth (tickets). Slick Rick also recently reissued his classic debut The Great Adventures of Slick Rick for its 30th anniversary, and that comes with the previously unreleased track “Snakes of the World Today.”

Earlier this year, Blood Orange released his new album Negro Swan and we caught him in Central Park.
