New York City is always an oppressively noisy place, but the atmosphere here becomes that much more grating in December. Not only do holiday shopping and travel planning put the populace on edge, but the most odious form of music in existence — secular Christmas music — blares from seemingly every available loudspeaker. Subway conductors who engage in this practice are obviously sadistic psychopaths.

If you need a respite from all the Plasticine cheer (if not from the noise) next weekend, this show should do the trick: Seattle noise/drone duo (and sometimes trio) Blue Sabbath Black Cheer are playing the Acheron on Friday the 13th, with a host of local & regional dark noise units in support: Whorid, Compactor, Existence in Decline, and I Say Fuck, several of which have ties to Theologian and Annihilvs Power Electronix.

You can’t beat a good descriptive aphorism, and Blue Sabbath Black Cheer have one: “Sounds like Sunn O))) committing suicide.” Tickets are available now. A similar lineup will appear in Providence the following night.
