Bob Dylan announces new LP 'Fallen Angels' and summer tour w/ Mavis Staples

Bob Dylan will release new album Fallen Angels later this year. Details still to come but he’ll be supporting it on a summer North American tour with Mavis Staples (who just put out a great new album). It includes a stop at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium on July 8. Tickets for the Queens show go on sale March 19 at 10 AM with an AmEx presale beginning March 14 at 10 AM.

For every pair of tickets purchased for this tour, buyers will receive a redemption code for a CD of Fallen Angels. (Except folks in Boston and Indianapolis.) Dylan will also be touring in Japan this spring. All dates — including stops in Philly and Connecticut — are listed below.

In other news, amongst the stuff in the Bob Dylan Archive — a 6000 item depository of curios of all types (demo tapes, lyrics, photos, etc) that Dylan has saved over the years that is now being saved digitally — is a letter Barbra Streisand wrote to him in 1978, thanking him for flowers and saying it would be lovely to record together. The New York Times mentioned it in a story, and Babs wrote the Times back with some context:

As I remember it, first he sent me flowers and a lovely note, asking me if I would like to sing with him. In return, I sent him the note that’s in his archive, thanking him for the flowers and the invitation. But for whatever reason, it never happened at the time.

Years later … when Yentl was about to come out [in 1983] … he sent me his latest album, along with the letter I still have. In it, he writes, “There are some songs on this album which I’m sure you would love to do.”

He adds, “I’m looking forward to seeing your movie. Maybe you can direct me in one of mine.” And then he goes on to say something that still means so much to me: “You are my favorite star. Your self-determination, wit and temperament and sense of justice have always appealed to me.”

Read more about that over at the Times.
