Bob Mould has shared a cover of classic Buzzcocks single “I Don’t Mind,” writing, “Early in my sophomore years, two concerts had a major impact on me. The first was at the Longhorn, with Gang of Four opening for the Buzzcocks. I was a huge fan of the Buzzcocks’ approach to pop songwriting and also appreciated the slashing guitar of Gang of Four. I was front and center for the entire Buzzcocks set, studying singer-guitarist Pete Shelley, watching his every motion. Legend has it that the entire band was tripping on LSD that evening — I don’t know, but many times during the set, Pete did lean down, off-mic, and shout the chord changes at me. It left a deep impression, and I became an even more intent student of their work.” Bob’s cover is very faithful to Buzzocks’ original but still a lot of fun — listen below.

Having released Sunshine Rock earlier this year and toured it with his band, Bob has just announced a solo electric tour for September, kicking off in Cleveland on 9/11 and including stops in Ann Arbor, Indianapolis, Louisville, Nashivelle, Atlanta, Richmond, DC and more. Will Johnson, formerly of Centro-matic, opens most dates. A word of warning: even though he’s not backed by a band, Bob only knows one volume — really loud.

Bob also plays Riot Fest in Chicago with his band, and he’s got a few European dates as well. All dates are listed below.

The original version of “I Don’t Mind,” written by the late Pete Shelley, can be found on Buzzcocks’ Singles Going Steady which is being reissued on vinyl and CD this Friday and should be in everyone’s collection. It’s also on the band’s debut album, Another Music in a Different Kitchen, which was reissued last year.
