Bob Nastanovich has been co-hosting the Three Songs podcast with Mike Hogan now for 100 episodes, a show where they each play three songs and talk about what they mean to them. But for Episode 100, they put aside the format and offer up a two-hour tribute to Bob’s friend and onetime Silver Jews bandmate, David Berman, who died in August. They go through Berman’s career as a songwriter and musician, first with Silver Jews and later Purple Mountains, with Nastanovich telling great stories about the early days living and recording in Hoboken with Berman and Stephen Malkmus, making records like Starlite Walker and American Water, and lots more. They also play a lot of great Berman music and, in addition to classics from Silver Jews and songs from Purple Mountains, Bob also plays an unreleased demo and a live recording. You can listen to the David Berman tribute episode of Three Songs below.
