Bob Weir

Bob Weir & Wolf Bros stripped down Grateful Dead classics at tour opener (setlist, videos)

Bob Weir began his tour with his new trio Wolf Bros at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort on Tuesday (10/16). He promised to be “exploring the songs of the Grateful Dead and more in a trio setting” on this tour, and he made good on that promise with tons of Dead favorites like “Jack Straw,” “Cassidy,” “Peggy-O,” “Bird Song,” “The Music Never Stopped,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider,” “Touch of Grey,” and more. He also did a couple Bob Dylan songs (“She Belongs To Me” and “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”), a song by his band Ratdog, and more. Wolf Bros was set up with Bobby on electric/acoustic guitars and vocals, Don Was on standup bass, and Jay Lane on drums, and the intimate set-up allowed for these classic songs to be presented in a much different light than the Dead’s usual fleshed-out, multi-layered style (and much different than Bobby’s recent tours with Dead & Co). Check out some videos and the setlist from the Reno show.

Bobby’s tour continues at LA’s Theatre at Ace Hotel tonight (10/18) and lands in the NYC-area for shows at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on November 9 & 10 (sold out) and Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre on November 18 & 19 (a few night 2 tickets available).

Sooner than Bobby’s two-night stand at the Cap, Phil Lesh will be at the same venue for a three-night Halloween run. Phil also plays Willie Nelson’s Hollywood Bowl show on Sunday (10/21).
