Bon Iver covered Bob Dylan & more from 37d03d Festival night 1 (pics, video)
Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Aaron Dessner (The National) are bringing their collaborative 37d03d (aka PEOPLE) Festival to Brooklyn for the first time this weekend (5/3-5/4). The fest kicked off on Friday at Pioneer Works with an evening of unique collaborations and special sets over two stages, many of which Justin himself had a hand in.
Starting off the night was a drone set from Hrrrbek, Justin’s noise project with Trever Hagen, featuring guest appearances from many musicians who would go on to perform later, too. Next, the women of Resistance Revival Chorus filed in and sang a short set in the middle of the floor. They were followed by a performance from a collective made up of Mike Lewis (Happy Apple, Alpha Consumer, etc), drummer JT Bates, Shahzad Ismaily, Andrew Broder, (Fog), and saxophonist Tim Berne on the second stage, then Talos on the main stage.
One of the night’s highlights came next: Justin Vernon leading a Bob Dylan cover band, for a set that included their takes on “Angelina,” “All Along the Watchtower,” “Not Dark Yet,” “Meet Me in the Morning,” “Spanish is the Loving Tongue,” and more. Justin reappeared for a song on the next set, Bonny Light Horseman, which also featured Anais Mitchell, Josh Kaufman, Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats), and Aaron Dessner on guitar for a couple of tracks.
A “yet to be named” project with Sinkane on guitar, joined by a saxophone player, came next, followed by the night’s final set, Boys Noize. He was joined by Justin and Aaron for the beginning of the set, and Greg Fox sat in for a few songs on drums.

37d03d Fest continues tonight (5/4) at Pioneer Works, and tickets are currently sold out. Aaron Dessner made us a playlist of the weekend’s artists, which you can listen to whether you’re attending or not.
