Boston Calling 2017 day 1 pics (Chance, Sigur Ros, Bon Iver, Migos, more)
The 2017 edition of Boston Calling kicked off yesterday (5/26) in a new location – The Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston, MA, moved from City Hall Plaza. The new location comes with additional stages and increased capacity, and, in the wake of the Manchester attack, tightened security. CBS Boston reports:
Boston Police are having a noticeable presence both inside and outside of the facility. Bicycle patrols are taking to the trails along the Charles River location.
The increased measures include metal detectors and bans on backpacks. All bags are being searched and that has caused longer lines. However, one event staff member says the people are taking it “in stride.
Solange dropped off the festival at the last minute due to “production delays and complications beyond her control.”, but Migos stepped in to fill her slot. Chance The Rapper (who will be in NYC next weekend for Governors Ball), Sigur Ros, Bon Iver, Mac DeMarco, Sylvan Esso, Car Seat Headrest, Francis & The Lights (who brought out Chance during their set), Deerhoof, Whitney, and Lucy Dacus were among others who played in the rain yesterday. See pictures from day one in the gallery above, with more still to come.
Boston Calling continues today with sets from The xx (who recently played NYC twice), The 1975, Mumford and Sons, Tegan & Sara, Danny Brown, Moses Sumney, Cousin Stizz, Strand of Oaks, Kevin Morby, and more. Reference the set times here.
