Brand New release reworked versions of 2006 demos (listen)

As most Brand New fans know, before they released their now-classic The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, a bunch of demos from the album’s sessions leaked, some of which ended up on the final album and some of which did not. The demo collection became an essential “album” in the band’s catalog, so much so that they finally started playing the songs live and eventually mastered them and released it on cassette as Leaked Demos 2006. Now they’ve chosen three highlights off that release, which have all entered their live sets, and reworked them into more finished-sounding recordings. If it doesn’t sound like much, give these a listen before you judge. Maybe it’s just because it’s something new, but these instantly sound better than the demos to me.

My personal favorite one, “Brother’s Song” (aka “Untitled 3”) is here, and finally hearing a finished full-band version of this song is pretty triumphant. The same can be said for “Missing You” and “1996.” Stream the whole thing (which includes the 2006 versions tacked on at the end) below. You can get it on vinyl from their label Procrastinate! Brand New last released the single “I Am A Nightmare” and we’ve all still got our fingers crossed for album #5.
