Brand New's Jesse Lacey covers R.E.M.'s "Bad Day" for his split with Kevin Devine (listen)

Kevin Devine Jesse Lacey

Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey recently played the Philly release party for Kevin Devine‘s split 7″ series, and it was confirmed after that show that Jesse would be the contributor to the sixth and final split in the series. That one’s now been officially announced. It comes out March 25 via Bad Timing Records, and it has Jesse and Kevin each contributing R.E.M. covers. Jesse offers up a rendition of “Bad Day,” led mostly by his voice and acoustic guitar, but with some nice embellishments in there too. It’s a good cover, as you can hear for yourself below (via FADER). Kevin is doing “Imitation Of Life,” and that one will be out soon. The split is up for pre-order.

As previously announced, Brand New will be touring with Modest Mouse this year, including a massive NYC show on July 14 at Madison Square Garden. That show is sold out. Brand New are also promising to finally release their fifth album this year.

This won’t be the first split in KD’s series to take on a classic ’80s band. Kevin and Tigers Jaw did The Cure last year. Kevin is touring with Murder By Death soon too.
