Bowery Presents’ long-in-the-works big capacity venue is finally moving forward. Previously known as Brooklyn Classic, it’s now officially called Brooklyn Steel and set to open in spring 2017.

While the venue’s schedule hasn’t been announced, Bowery Presents (now part of AEG) released a press release saying that The Decemberists, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Two Door Cinema Club, Animal Collective, Perfume Genius, Whitney, Tycho, The Black Angels and San Fermin would be among Brooklyn Steel’s first headliners. With a capacity of approximately 1800, it will be the largest general admission venue in Brooklyn. It’s at 319 Frost Street in Williamsburg, not far from the Graham Ave L stop, and here’s a little more about it:

…featuring raised platforms and a mezzanine allowing for great sightlines from anywhere within the space; three bars; 40 total restrooms; three dressing rooms featuring full bathrooms with washers and dryers; and production, vendor and promoter offices. Keeping with the industrial look of its legacy, Brooklyn Steel features hundreds of tons of steel in the construction including repurposed materials throughout. The main lobby bar is created from scrap metal and incorporates an installation of three original fans, as well as original window frames that are being reused to build out the venue walls. Additionally, a salvaged five- ton steel hook hanging over the main lobby will feature an original installation from a local artist.

“Brooklyn Steel is filling a void in the Brooklyn music scene, offering the largest general admission venue in New York’s largest borough,” said John Moore and Jim Glancy, partners at The Bowery Presents. “With every venue we open, we aim to create a space where both fans and bands can fully enjoy the experience; from easy access to bars and restrooms, to unobstructed sightlines and state-of-the-art sound and acoustics, we’re confident that Brooklyn Steel delivers on our commitment to keep the music first.”

Brooklyn Steel, located at 319 Frost Street, is a 20,000-square foot general admission venue featuring raised platforms and a mezzanine allowing for great sightlines from anywhere within the space; three bars; 40 total restrooms; three dressing rooms featuring full bathrooms with washers and dryers; and production, vendor and promoter offices.

As with all The Bowery Presents’ venues, quality of sound is of the utmost importance for both the fans and artists. With that at top of mind, The Bowery Presents has retained L-Acoustics, widely recognized throughout the industry as pioneers in their field, to create an optimal sound experience at Brooklyn Steel. L-Acoustics is also responsible for the new sound system at Terminal 5. To help with acoustic containment, a unique feature of Brooklyn Steel is the addition of a 10,000 square-foot green roof which will confine sound within the venue. The architect on the new space is HLW NYC and the contractor Jepol Brooklyn.

The Bowery Presents worked closely with Community Board 1 throughout the construction process, and will continue to be active participants as they become a part of the fabric of this community. Brooklyn Steel will have an estimated 50-60 people working various positions in the venue, between front of house and back of house, on any given event night.

As the leading promoter in the Northeast, The Bowery Presents has a reputation for producing dynamic entertainment experiences at dozens of venues nationally, presenting more than 2,500 shows per year. The Bowery Presents operates and books venues across the Northeast including Terminal 5 and Music Hall of Williamsburg in New York City, The Sinclair in Boston and Union Transfer in Philadelphia, among others.
