Friday begins inside with Richmond singer/songwriter Lucy Dacus (who just released a very promising debut album), and then it gets weirder and louder for inventive Irish post-punks Girls Names (who made one of our favorite albums of last year) and DF
DFA-signed art punks Guerilla Toss. Then it’s back to the comparatively calmer stuff for recent Saddle Creek signees Big Thief, followed by former Pipettes member Gwenno, who’s now an adventurous solo artist. The day ends on a folkier note with Japanese Breakfast followed by Third Man-signed country singer Margo Price and Atlanta’s Mothers who instantly won us over a few months ago at CMJ.

On the outside stage, we’re kicking things off with a bang with the Matador-signed indie rockers Car Seat Headrest (another CMJ fave). After them the energy stays high for infectious indie rock duo Diet Cig, and then calms down for the dreamy pop sounds of Pure Bathing Culture and ethereal UK band Fear of Men. Then we switch things up a bit with a set by New York boundary challenging rapper Le1f. Le1f is followed by Memphis singer/songwriter Julien Baker, who arrived last year with an instantly impressive album and live shows, and who’s only been getting better. She’ll be followed by Into It. Over It., who just released their great John Vanderslice-produced album this week, and finally dystopian Detroit post-punk ragers Protomartyr wrap up the day in a big way.
