Bruce Springsteen joined Billy Joel for his 100th MSG show (on Billy Joel Day)

A post shared by M C (@rockgalmel) on

For nearly five years, Billy Joel has been playing a show a month at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and Wednesday, July 18 marked his 100th show (and 54th consecutive performance) there. He’s a record-holder with “most lifetime performances by any artist” at MSG. Governor Cuomo declared July 18 Billy Joel Day in New York State (of mind), and they made a big deal of it at the show Wednesday night, including a special appearance by Bruce Springsteen who came out to perform “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” (changing the lyric to “the Piano Man joined the band”) and “Born to Run” with Billy. You can watch Bruce and Billy’s performance, and check out a few other pics from the show (and Billy’s 100th MSG show setlist), below.

Bruce, meanwhile, has had most of the week off from his Springsteen on Broadway show, just a few blocks North at the Walter Kerr Theater, but resumes things Friday and Saturday. Springsteen on Broadway will also be coming to Netflix this year.
