Bruce Springsteen played a surprise performance at Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony. It was a private event benefiting Boston College — Springsteen’s son went there and, as Variety notes, he’s played similar benefits at The Stone Pony in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Backed by Bobby Bandiera’s band, with E-Street Band drummer joining them midway through the show for “Rosalita,” “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out,” “Born to Run” and more. The set also included “Born in the USA,” “The River,” I’m on Fire,” “Dancing in the Dark” and “Thunder Road.” Bobby Bandiera sang on “From Small Things” and Kings of Suburbia vocalist Layonne Holmes came out a cover of The Ad Libs’ “The Boy From New York City.” Check out the setlist and a couple fan-shot videos below.

Springsteen will perform, along with Eurythmics, James Taylor, John Mellencamp and more, at Beacon Theatre on December 9 as port of a benefit for Sting’s Rainforest Fund.
