Bruce Springsteen won an honorary Tony, performed “My Hometown” (watch)
Bruce Springsteen took one step closer to an EGOT when he was an awarded a special Tony Award on Sunday (6/10) night. Presented by Billy Joel, the award was in honor of the critically and commercially successful Springsteen on Broadway, whose original eight week run has been extended through December. “This is deeply appreciated,” Bruce said in his acceptance speech. “Thank you for making me feel so welcome on the block. Being part of the Broadway community has been a great thrill and an honor and one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced.” Watch Bruce accept the award below.
Later in the evening, Robert DeNiro introduced Bruce for his performance, dropping a “fuck Trump” and congratulating Bruce on his Tony for Springsteen on Broadway, “or as I like to call it, Jersey Boy.” Watch Bruce’s monologue and performance of “My Hometown” below.
