Built to Spill, Afghan Whigs @ Brooklyn Steel (pics, setlists)

The ’90s indie rock dream team of Built to Spill and Afghan Whigs brought their co-headlining tour to NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on Wednesday (4/18). With neither band supporting a brand new album (Afghan Whigs did release In Spades last year), sets were heavy with favorites: BTS’ set included “In the Moring,” “Carry the Zero,” “I Would Hurt a Fly,” “Time Trap” and “Car,” a cover of The Pretenders’ “Back on the Chain Gang” and more; while Afghan Whigs’ set featured “Debonair,” “John the Babtist,” Twilight Singers songs and a cover of David Gilmour’s “There’s No Way Out of Here.” Setlists for both bands are below and pictures from the night, including openers Rituals of Mine (formerly Sister Crayon), in the gallery above.

Thursday night, Built to Spill played the slightly smaller Baby’s All Right with a pretty different setlist than Brooklyn Steel, and included an encore cover of Queen’s “Sheer Heart Attack”. (Rituals of Mine opened that one too.) Check out that setlist below as well.
