BV Presents: free screenings of ‘Only The Young’ AND ‘Tchoupitoulas’ (a double feature!), both in theaters soon
As you’ve probably noticed by now, BrooklynVegan has a new hobby, and that is presenting 100% FREE movie screenings, usually right before those films hit theaters. Our last one, The Comedy, brought a full room full of people out to Knitting Factory in Brooklyn earlier this month. We hope you’ll join us again this coming Sunday, December 2, at the same venue, for a double feature of Oscilloscope Laboratories indie films: ‘Only The Young’ and ‘Tchoupitoulas’.
First up: Only the Young which “is an honest and beautiful coming-of-age film from up-and-coming filmmakers Jason Tippet and Elizabeth Mims, with a soundtrack crafted by Nick Thorburn (The Unicorns, Islands). The film just won the Audience Award at AFI and has been described as a real-life Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles.” Watch the trailer below, and if you miss our screening, look for it in theaters on December 7.
Then: “From the producers of Beasts of the Southern Wild comes Tchoupitoulas, a film that follows three young boys as they pull an all-nighter through the streets of New Orleans. The film is very surreal, and sports a vibrant New Orleans soundtrack.” That soundtrack includes The Meters’ “Handclapping Song.” Watch the trailer below, and if you miss our screening, also look for this movie in theaters on December 7.
The doors to the free screening will open at 6:30 pm on 12/2, and as the flyer above points out, Only the Young will play at 7:00, and Tchoupitoulas will play at 8:30. The seated screening, which is in the back, main, show room of Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, is first come, first served, and 100% FREE (though you can pay for drinks if you want!). (Hannibal Buress’s free comedy show begins in the front bar at 9pm.) See you there!
