Camp Cope share "The Opener" off sophomore album

Camp Cope recently signed to Run For Cover in the US, who gave their great 2016 self-titled debut a physical US release this past September. They’re planning to follow that with a sophomore album in 2018, and they just released the album’s first single, “The Opener.” Over the kind of indie-punk backing that Camp Cope perfected on their debut, singer Georgia Maq uses her roaring vocals to tackle music industry sexism. Lyrics like “you worked so hard but we were ‘just lucky’ to ride those coattails into infinity, and all my successes got nothing to do with me” and “it’s another man telling us we can’t fill up the room, it’s another man telling us to book a smaller venue” resonate strongly at a time gender inequality in the music industry is still so prevalent and rampant. Listen below.

Camp Cope made their US debut over the summer, which included two NYC shows. Pictures of the one with Jeff Rosenstock at Silent Barn are here.
