Canal Room closing; Tribute shows moving to LPR
Do Stop Believing — Canal Room is about to be no more (more by Andrew St. Clair)
The Canal Street venue that lately is mostly known for hosting 80s & 90s themed tribute shows (like the one we caught in 2011 with Debbie Gibson and Tiffany), is closing. The final two nights at Canal Room, despite what this 12/20 letter said, are January 10 & 11:
From Canal Room co-owner Marcus Linial
Last Call. Canal Room Closing. It’s Bittersweet.
After 15 years in the building and 10 years as Canal Room , My partner Sam and I have sold the club. This was our decision and the timing was right. The space will be a new upscale lounge. Not a live music venue. We wish the new owner all the best.
Our last 2 night’s will be
Friday Jan 3rdwith The Bayside Tigers and Saturday Jan 4thwith Jessie’s Girl – The Worlds Hottest ’80s Tribute Band. Could’t think of a better way to go out.
We thank all of our amazing staff over the years you know who you are, all the bands that have performed on our stage. All the customers and clients. Without you..we could not have been in business for so long.
Also excited that both shows Back To The Eighties Show with Jessie’s Girl and Saved By The 90s Party with The Bayside Tigers have a new home. More on that soon.
Hope to see you all over the next few weeks and at our final weekend
Jan 3 & 4. Happy Holidays to you all.
Our own memories of Canal Room include seeing Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers there in 2009, ending up there for random CMJ showcases and sponsored parties, watching Jon Brion make magic with Rhett Miller, catching an artsy performance as part of a Fischerspooner residency, and seeing The Go! Team cheer through a show right when they were all the hype. What do you remember about the place?
Goodbye Canal Room!
