Candy streaming new LP, touring with Fucked Up then Self Defense Family

Candy Good To Feel

Richmond hardcore newcomers Candy (whose lineup includes current and former members of Malfunction, Lost Souls, and Backtrack) debuted last year with a promising demo that led to a deal with Triple B Records, who released the Candy Says EP a few months later. This year, they put out their debut album Good To Feel on Triple B, and it’s a nine-song crusher that treks through heavy, ’90s-style hardcore, making room for bits of sludge metal, metalcore, death metal and more along the way, and even trekking into a little melodic shoegaze for album closer “Bigger Than Yours.” It seems pretty clear that Candy have no interest in keeping their sound inside strict hardcore boundary lines, and they’re very good at what they do. Stream the whole record and watch a live video from the Philly show of their recent tour with Terror, Backtrack, Harms Way, and Year of the Knife below.

Candy have upcoming tour dates with two bands who are rooted in hardcore but very clearly defy the genre and take their sound in all kinds of non-hardcore directions, Fucked Up and Self Defense Family. The dates with FU are on the East Coast and the dates with SDF are on the West.

The run with Fucked Up includes their sold-out Brooklyn show on November 8 at Market Hotel which is also has Bad Waitress on the bill. (Fucked Up’s 11/7 show at the same venue is still on sale, but that one has L.O.T.I.O.N. in place of Candy.)

Candy have also gotten a few comparisons to metallic hardcore OGs Integrity, and they were added to night two of Integrity’s two-night stand at Baltimore’s Metro Gallery in January. Candy play 1/12 with Integrity, Full of Hell and Ilsa. The other show (1/11) has Integrity joined by Genocide Pact, Devil Master, and Psywarfare. Updated flyer below.

Speaking of Devil Master, they also open for Christian Death at Brooklyn Bazaar on Halloween (tickets).
