The beloved annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has sadly been cancelled this year, but NYC offers a few other opportunities to get in the spirit of Halloween with some costumed canines. I headed to Coney Island on Sunday (10/14) for the sixth annual Luna Park Dog Parade, where over 100 dressed-up dogs walked a route throughout the amusement park, which is decorated for the season with hay bales and skeletons, and competed for prizes like Cutest Dog, Audience Choice, Mr. and Mrs. Congeniality, and Best in Show. Costumes included Ziggy Stardog, a UPS delivery driver, Spider-Dog, Chewbacca, a doggy lumberjack, and more. Check out pictures of the pooches in the gallery above.

For more Halloween hounds this season, the 20th annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest happens in Fort Greene Park on October 27 at 11:30 AM. Pre-registration has sold out, but limited walk up registration will be available on the day of the contest. Also on October 27, the Halloween Harvest Festival happens at Astoria’s Socrates Sculpture Park, including a dog costume contest at 2 PM.
