Halloween shows in and around NYC include the grand opening of new Bushwick venue Elsewhere, GWAR, Diamanda Galas, Craig Finn & John K Samson, George Clinton, King Crimson, Springsteen on Broadway, Primus, Phil Lesh, and more.

Beach Fossils were in the Halloween spirit at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel for their “sacrificial ritual spectacular” on Saturday night (10/28) which was also the final date of their tour. Dressed in sacrificial red robes and ghoulish face paint, the band played a colorful graveyard-themed stage full of cobwebs, tombstones, human carcasses and, not accidentally, fossils, among other creepy stuff.

The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn is on tour with The Weakerthans’ John K Samson, and the Halloween show in NYC will be Paul Stanley-themed. Also, watch Craig and John cover Gillian Welch together…

Hundreds of costumed dogs and their owners, as well as curious onlookers, spilled out of the multi-use courts and lined the fences surrounding them. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes, but to me, all the dogs in attendance were winners.

Halloween’s just a couple weeks away which makes October the ultimate month for horror movies. The Brooklyn Horror Film Fest just wrapped up it’s second editon but there are still shortage of places to see classic and new horror flicks on the big screen in NYC. Here’s a round-up of what’s going on.

The 2017 Brooklyn Horror Film Festival runs through Sunday, October 15 at theaters all over the borough.

The new Park Slope location of Nitehawk Cinema (which is taking over the old Pavilion theater) had to postpone its opening to Winter 2018, but you can get a sneak peak this month as they’re throwing a Halloween Party…
