After taking 2018 off, Chicago Open Air returned to Bridgeview, IL’s SeatGeek Stadium (fka Toyota Park) for the first of two days of rock and metal on Saturday (5/18). The day got off to a late start after doors were delayed because of severe weather, forcing the cancellation of sets from Vein, Knocked Loose and Code Orange. All three bands, plus Harms Way, did wind up putting together a last minute late-night make up show at Chicago’s much more intimate Metro on Saturday night.

As for the festival itself, its doors were pushed back to 4:30 pm and music started an hour later with an abbreviated lineup of Beartooth, Meshuggah, Ghost, and System of a Down. Check out pictures in the gallery above, and watch a video of System of a Down’s full set, as well as a few songs from Ghost’s set, below.

Chicago Open Air wraps up today (5/19) with a headlining set from Tool, plus The Cult, Gojira, Alien Weaponry, and more. With scattered thunderstorms in the forecast for today, hopefully Tool’s set won’t go the way their recent cancelled Epicenter appearance.
