Django Django @ Schubas on 9.20.2012
Django Django not only kicked off their first-ever North American tour on Thursday night (9/20) at Schubas, but that show also served as their Chicago debut. I arrived at the venue as they were loading copious amounts of gear on stage (note: it was ALL put to use), and beginning to check levels. All in attendance, including the band, seemed to be super excited. A gentleman near me remarked, "Whenever a band plays Schubas you know they're going to be huge, these guys are going to do big things." Will those "big things" include a Mercury Prize title? We'll see shortly. The group got situated and began their set with the great "Hail Bop." Between that track's Nintendo video game-like dance beat and its skronky guitar, people seemed to not know how to handle themselves, so they just danced. That, in a nutshell, is part of what makes Django Django so great. The group went on to perform all of their excellent self-titled debut, minus the tracks "Introduction" and "Zumm Zumm."
