DOWNLOAD: Pillars and Tongues - "Points of Light" (MP3)
Chicago experimentalists Pillars and Tongues are slated to welcome their new album, End-dances, on September 17 via Empty Cellar Records. The trio have previously shared its lead single "Knifelike" and another album cut called "Points of Light" makes its premiere in this post. Frontman Mark Trecka's even baritone glides above a thick bass line, as he's colorfully countered by co-vocalist Beth Remis. Grab a download of the track above and/or take a listen to it at the bottom of this post. Cover art and tracklisting for End-dances can also be found below.
Aside from a string of fall tour dates with fellow Chicagoan Angel Olsen, P&T also have a pair of upcoming Chicago gigs. The first is a free show at The Chicago Cultural Center on September 20 with Suns and Santah. Then, they'll headline The Burlington on October 12. Additional details on that performance are forthcoming.

Landmarks -- Cuscutta 7"
Chicago's Color Radio parted ways in the spring of 2012 and more or less morphed into a new outfit called Landmarks. With a new direction and a pair of additional members in the fold, the quintet quickly began to play local shows. They put out a couple of tunes this past winter and then headed to Logan Square's The Public House to track their debut 7" for the studio's monthly Public House Sound Recordings series in May. "Cuscutta" b/w "Overflown" came out of that session, showcasing both how spacey and how tightly-wound the group can awesomely be. The motorik "Overflown" is easily my favorite of the two, echoing Micrcocastle-period Deerhunter (see "Nothing Ever Happened"). Frontman Stephen Simko's high-register vocals sit deep in the mix, taking a backseat to the pulsating bass and meandering keys. Then, almost to remind you where they started off with "Cuscutta," the quintet bust the track wide open with a charge of overdriven guitars around 02:30 in. You can grab both sides of the 7" at the top of this post and/or take a listen below.

DOWNLOAD: Acquaintances - "Learn To Let It Go" (MP3)
As discussed, Acquaintances is the project of Jered Gummere (Bare Mutants, The Ponys), Justin Sinkovich (The Poison Arrows, Atombombpocketknife, Thumbnail), Patrick Morris (Don Caballero, The Poison Arrows), Stephen Schmidt (Thumbnail, Chino Horde), and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Shake Ray Turbine). Today, they're celebrating the release of their self-titled debut via Epitonic/File 13 Records. You've already heard "Skin" from the LP, and we've got the premiere of the Sinkovich-lead "Learn To Let It Go." It opens with opposing, nervy guitar lines and then the drums later blast to the front of the mix as Sinkovich sneers the hook. Grab a download of the track at the top of this post and/or take a listen to it after the jump.
Acquaintances don't currently have any live performances scheduled, but they are planning on touring throughout the East Coast and Midwest soon. Stay tuned for more details on that front.

Young Chicago dudes and Orwells affiliates Twin Peaks self-released their debut album, Sunken, back in July. It's a strong collection of glam-influenced garage rock that DOESN'T sound as if a bunch of youngsters made it. You used to be able to listen to the whole album via their bandcamp, but they've recently inked a deal with Autumn Tone Records (congratulations, guys!), and it disappeared. AT say they'll be releasing a Twin Peaks album in June, so maybe a reissue of Sunken is first on the docket? Twin Peaks recently recorded Sunken's "Stand in the Sand" for a Rolo & Grady session, which you can watch at the bottom of this post. You can also download an MP3 version of the session above.
As discussed, Twin Peaks will be playing our FREE joint SXSW day party with Epitonic on Wednesday, March 13 at Swan Dive // Barbarella Patio. Their set is at 3:45PM at the outdoor Barbarella Patio stage, and is not to be missed if you'll be down in Austin, TX. The guys are also playing the Hideout's SXSW kick-off party on Saturday afternoon (3/9), and then the NineteenTwenty House at night with Sister Crystals, Method Air, and Bell Labs.
All Twin Peaks tour dates and their Rolo & Grady session are below...
