Disappears at Lincoln Hall on 4.18.2013

Chicago's Disappears welcomed their new Kone EP earlier this month, and celebrated its release with a hometown show at Lincoln Hall on April 18 with Pinebender and The Cairo Gang. We unfortunately missed The Cairo Gang, but you can find more pictures of Disappears and Pinebender at the bottom of this post.
Your next chance to catch Disappears in Chicago will be at Do Division 2013, who have just revealed their full lineup. The hometown guys will perform alongside Torche, Ariel Pink, Ex Cops, JEFF the Brotherhood, and more throughout the weekend of May 31. Admission is donation based ($5 per day is suggested). As discussed, Do Division 2013 is set to take place from May 31 - June 2 (on Division St. between Damen Ave. & Leavitt St.). Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti were the first act to be revealed for the street fest, and it has now been announced that Torche, Gaslamp Killer, JEFF the Brotherhood, Tilly and the Wall, Night Moves, and many more acts have been added to the bill.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti have announced that they'll be embarking on a large spring North American tour. That tour includes a performance at the Do Division Street Festival on June 1, as well as a late show at the Empty Bottle that night. As discussed, Do Division 2013 is set to take place from May 31 - June 2. The Haunted Graffiti are the first act to be announced for this year. Tickets for their late show at the Empty Bottle go on sale this Friday (3/8) at 10AM CST.

Do Division 2012 (more by Sarah Frankie Linder)

It's a little hard to think about the sweltering Chicago summers when there are snow showers and 20-ish ºF temperatures in the five-day forecast. That said, it has been announced that the annual Do Division Street Festival will be taking place from May 31 - June 2 this year (on Division St. between Damen Ave. & Leavitt St.). It'll go from 5-10PM on May 31 and noon-10PM on June 1 & 2.
UPDATE: Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti are playing Do Division on June 1.

Murder By Death / Cory Chisel @ Do Division on 6/3/2012


On Sunday (6/3) Murder By Death and Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons were two of the many bands who played the Do Division Street Festival. Pictures of both of their sets are in this post.
Last month, Murder By Death announced a summer tour, which features Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons as main support on many dates. A Chicago show at Metro on August 25 has been added to that tour. Ha Ha Tonka are also on the bill and open up a number of dates on MBD's tour, themselves. Tickets for their show at Metro go on sale this Saturday (6/9) at noon CST.

The Antlers @ Do Division on 6/3/2012

On Sunday night (6/3) Brooklyn's The Antlers closed out Do Division 2012 by headlining the Empty Bottle-presented Damen Stage. Their characteristically lush set was dominated by tracks from their 2011 LP Burst Apart including "Rolled Together," "No Widows," "Parenthesis," "Putting the Dog to Sleep," and others. They did manage to reach back to Hospice to play both "Atrophy" and "Wake," and also slipped in a new one called "Drift Dive." A full set of pictures from their Do Division set are in this post.
"Drift Dive" is the opening track to their brand new EP, Undersea, due out on July 24 via Anti- in North America. Head to their website for an explanation of the album. Undersea is up for preorder in both vinyl and digital formats. Check out the album's cover art, tracklist, and a trailer at the bottom of this post.

Saturday (6/2) served as day two of the 2012 Do Division Street Festival. The lineup featured 12-bands split between two-stages including Le Butcherettes, Besnard Lakes, Brown Bird, Craig Finn, and more.
Do Division continues today (6/3). A set of pictures from yesterday afternoon/evening below...

With the addition of The Soft Pack, Gypsyblood, the Mutts, Young Jesus, and Magic Milk, the 2012 Do Division Street Festival has sealed its schedule. The free street fest (suggested donation of $5), taking place from June 1-3 in Wicker Park, also features a sidewalk sale from participating local shops and tons of food vendors.

Chicago duo White Mystery have been touring non-stop this year. They've just announced a brand new summer run, acting as main support for Tokyo's Shonen Knife. Kicking off in Philly in July, the tour will reach the Empty Bottle on August 2. Advance tickets are on sale. White Mystery are also playing HoZac Blackout Fest and Do Division.

As mentioned, the Do Division Street Festival is set to take place from June 1-3 in Wicker Park. Since the beginning of this month, the fest has been revealing a few bands per week and the schedule is now almost complete. Check out the current lineup-by-day, below...

Battles, who were here in October to play the Vic, have announced a small (for them at least) club show at the Bottom Lounge on June 2. Tickets are on sale NOW.
As mentioned, the Do Division Street Festival takes place this year from June 1-3. Larger bands on the lineup have historically booked Chicago club shows on top of their festival appearances. As you may have noticed, Le Butcherettes are doing exactly that. Hm......
Battles' Chicago show is one of only three announced US dates on their schedule. The other two, which also take place in June, are Bonnaroo (June 9) and Westword (June 23). (thx Parker)

At the beginning of this week the Do Division Street Festival, taking place from June 1-3 in Wicker Park, announced their initial lineup of Le Butcherettes, O'Death, and Murder By Death. They've now added Brooklyn's The Antlers, plus Chicago's own BBU and Mannequin Men to the overall lineup.

FRIDAY
Lauryn Hill and Mos Def will play the Aragon Ballroom.
Thao & Mirah will headline Empty Bottle; joined by BOBBY, and Led to Sea.
Brett Dennen and Dawes will play the Vic.
Raphael Saadiq, and Kids These Days will play Park West.
Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Bukue One, Serendipity Project, and Abstract Giants can be found at Abbey Pub.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and Chamberlin will play the House of Blues.
SATURDAY
Moxie Motive, and The Black; who consist of members of Voxtrot, and ...Trail of Dead will play the Beat Kitchen.
Bonobo will play a late DJ Set at Beauty Bar.
Dengue Fever, The Eternals, and Young Boys will play Empty Bottle.
Lincoln Hall will host Bailiff's record release, with special guests: Secret Colours, and Box Jellyfish.
SUNDAY
Big Freedia, Javelin, and Shane Shane will play Empty Bottle.
Oberhofer, Young Man, and Netherfriends can be found at Lincoln Hall.
UPDATE: Shawn Rosenblatt of Netherfriends will be playing a 4PM in-store at Reckless Records (Belmont).
Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance, and Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins will play Metro.

Do Division 2010 (via REP3)

The 2011 Do Division Street Festival has announced its initial lineup, and details. This year, it will be taking place on June 4th & 5th on Division Street between Ashland and Leavitt in Wicker Park. Admission is open, with a suggested donation of $5. That shouldn't be much of an issue, because even the initial lineup is worth more than that!
Wicker Park's Do Division Fest stretches for 10 city blocks and includes a variety of great bands, fantastic food, retailers and shopping. Sidewalk sales fill the perimeter of the area and the extra-wide side walks allow plenty of al fresco dining at the incredible area restaurants ... in addition to all of the food being served directly at the fest itself.Each and every year this event is packed and getting bigger. Do not miss this fantastic and fun event. It's a great kick-off to Summer.
Who are the bands playing this year? New Orleans native Big Freedia, known for his work in bounce music, and Omar Souleyman, a Syrian musician, will play on the Damen stage, with a DJ set by Bonobo, a British musician and producer.
Over on the Leavitt stage, attendees can rock out to some old favorites by two tribute bands: Led Zeppelin 2 and This Must Be the Band, which plays Talking Heads tunes. [wicker park bucktown]
