Owls: present day
On Monday, March 10, Kyp Malone (of TV on the Radio)'s Ice Balloons project headline the Empty Bottle's ongoing "Free Monday" series. The group also consists of Dan Scinta, Sean Powell, Giselle Reiber, Rob Bryn, and B.A. Miale, and released their great debut LP last fall. It sounds like David Byrne taking on noise rock, which is to say it's pretty awesome. The night will also feature a solo set from Malone, and local openers Coins. No RSVP is needed--just show up before they hit capacity.
You'll find a complete stream of Ice Balloons' debut LP and videos for "Night Slave" and "Bridge of Total Freedom" lie after the jump...
Eels @ NYC's Webster Hall, 2013 (more by PSquared Photography)
Genre-bending DC foursome Deleted Scenes are gearing up for the release of their third full-length album, Lithium Burn, which is due out on April 15 via Park the Van/Nevado Records. They do a fair amount of shape shifting on the LP, from spastic moments found on "Haircuts / Uniforms" and lead single "Stutter," to plaintive cuts like "Landfall" and "Seasons of Wire," to the defiant number "Let's Not Try to Fix Everything at Once." You can check out the music video for "Stutter" and stream its non-album B-side "Songs of Leaving Behind" at the bottom of this post. Tracklisting for Lithium Burn can also be found below.
Deleted Scenes will be embarking on a spring North American tour in mid-April--they'll also be at SXSW next month. That tour includes a performance at the Empty Bottle on May 14. Ticketing information for the Chicago show is forthcoming, but check Ticketweb for updates.

Tickets for the Chicago show go on sale this Friday (2/28) at 10AM CST. All dates are listed at the bottom of this post.
Mockasin's most recent effort, Caramel, hit US stores back in November via Mexican Summer. It's decidedly more funky than his debut LP Forever Dolphin Love, but retains his oddball pop sensibility. Marissa Nadler's excellent new album, July, hit stores last week via Sacred Bones. If you haven't heard it yet, the LP is even more haunting and ethereal than her past material. She's also got a sinister new video for the album cut "Was It A Dream," which you can check out at the bottom of this post.
