Jenny Hval @ Brooklyn's Glasslands in March (more by Amanda Hatfield)
As discussed, Norwegian art pop musician Jenny Hval is currently on tour throughout North America in continued support of 2013's excellent Innocence Is Kinky with ambient guitarist Mark McGuire. The pair will tag Chicago as part of their tour for a performance at the Empty Bottle on April 18 with additional support from Wedding Dress (who will also play our Record Store Day in-store marathon at Saki). Advance tickets are still available, and we've also got a pair to give away! Details on how to enter to win can be found at the bottom of this post.
Mark McGuire, formerly of Emeralds, welcomed his great new solo album, Along The Way, in February via Dead Oceans. The LP is chock-full of the kind of lush and expansive loops he's become known for, and you can give it a spin via Spotify, Rdio. The 4/18 show also serves as a record release for Wedding Dress' Loom 7", which arrives via Lovitt Records. Its moody and percussive title track is available to stream in this post. Grab a copy of the 7" at the show or via Lovitt's webstore.

(via Thalia Hall's Instagram)
The last time we spoke about the Empty Bottle-operated Pilsen spot Thalia Hall, it was just getting ready to open its doors. Its tavern Dusek's and basement bar the Punch House have been in full swing since mid-September, and the only missing piece has been Thalia's beautiful-but-in-disrepair second floor theater. According to DNAinfo, the theater's liquor and entertainment licenses were applied for on February 13. In response to a recent "when is it opening?" inquiry on the venue's Facebook page, they've replied "Look out for some news in early summer!" Stay tuned for more information.
