Coffinworm @ Power of the Riff East (more by Greg Cristman)

Coffinworm was formed under watchful eye of Choronzon in late 2007. The 'Great Bringer of Night' demo was recorded by Bob Fouts (Basement Rage Studios) in late 2008/early 2009 and led to an alliance with Profound Lore Records shortly afterwards. The 'When All Became None' full-length was recorded by Sanford Parker in December of 2009 within Semaphore Studios, Chicago, and released in April 2010. Summer 2010 saw a lineup change with J. joining the fold on drums and C. moving from behind the kit to guitar." - their bio

The ongoing BrooklynVegan-sponsored Weedeater tour rolled into Reggies on Saturday night (9/17) withSaviours, Bison BC & Fight Amp. PunkVinyl says:

"The club was already full before Weedeater took the stage and those that may have been hiding outside smoking or at the bar next door packed into the club just in time to see the band open with one of their best songs, "God Luck and Good Speed'. This came after the band walked onstage to the theme from Sanford and Sun and Dixie started twirling a bottle of Jim Bean before swigging it. The band's sound was thicker than ever and their trademark sludge metal was in top form this evening. Luckily the band didn't injure themselves before coming to town (something they've been known to do, thus having to cancel many shows) and they all seemed to be in fine form with all appendages intact. From there they played some songs from their latest album, Jason the Dragon as well as stuff from God Luck and Good Speed. Every song sounded so heavy and Dixie's distinct raspy blown out vocals sounded strong. He was bouncing all over the place and spitting while playing and it is amazing he doesn't ever miss a note while moving around so much."
Here are some pictures from the metal show. They continue below...

Dixie Dave of Weedeater (left) on stage with Buzzov*en at MDF (more by BBG)

"Weedeater took the stage in true, drunken form for a performance that blew their Charleston show out of the water. Between fellating the microphone, sipping Robitussin (evidence below) and puking in the trashcan (I think), 'Dixie' Dave's rasp, rumbling bass and cross-eyed stare basically define "sludge". Chugging doom riffs and rolling drums filled out the thick, muddled sound as the band banged out a good mix of old and new(er) material." [a 2010 BV show review]
Another BV sponsored Weedeater trek begins on 9/6 with a tour kickoff in the band's native North Carolina at King's Barcade. The tour then dots the East Coast for a couple of weeks before landing in Chicago at Reggie's on September 17th with Saviours, Bison BC & Fight Amp. Tickets are on sale. All tour dates are listed below.

Saviours have a new LP in Death Procession, due via Kemado on 9/6. BrooklynVegan recently premiered the new song "To The Grave Possessed". Check that out.
