Of Montreal @ Yonge Dundas Square

As we speak, the Flaming Lips are working towards a goal of playing the most shows in 24 hours. Back on 6/16 the band played a headlining set outdoors in Toronto's Yonge-Dundas Square. Pictures from their set at the free show are up at BrooklynVegan. Here are the pics of the not-too-shabby openers Of Montreal and Portugal. The Man. They continue below...

Portugal. The Man @ Lollapalooza 2011 (more by Grant MacAllister)

As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Portugal. The Man (who had everything stolen at lolla) have recovered most if not all of their gear.
Chicago resident Juan Ocampo, 39, was charged with felony theft and ordered to be held on $10,000 bail for stealing their van, plus trailer, with $80,000 worth of gear inside.
The band reported that its Ford van and trailer, with all their equipment, was stolen between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Aug. 8 from a parking lot in the 900 block of South Wabash Avenue. The van and trailer were found the next day near 58th and Paulina Streets, but the equipment was gone.Missing were eight guitars, an electric organ, an electric piano, musical pedals, drums, speakers and microphones, an iPod and a banjo, according to a list released by the band.
Ocampo told police he bought the equipment for $1,000 after meeting a man at the Swap-0-Rama flea market in the 4000 block of South Ashland Avenue on Aug. 9.
The man showed him some instruments and "indicated he had much more of the same," according to a police report. Ocampo told the man to bring the items to his house, which the man did afternoon. Ocampo told police he agreed to pay the man $1,000.
A few things are still missing, including a beautiful, Gretch White Falcon (pictured above). All in all this is a large victory not just for bands in the US, but around the world.
The guys in Portugal. The Man plan to thank the Chicago PD with CDs, as well as you guessed it: doughnuts.
"Don't be offended when we send a pile of doughnuts over," the band posted on Facebook. "We are understanding in its simplicity. It's like a marathon runner eating a stack of pancakes before the run. It is much needed energy in your long days of crime-solving and we appreciate this because, well, doughnuts are delicious and sending cupcakes is a little to mamby-pamby for the sissys you most certainly are not. All respect."
