Sigur Ros at UIC Pavilion on 4.02.2013

On Tuesday night (4/02), Sigur Ros brought their massive North American tour through Chicago for a performance at the UIC Pavilion. As they've been doing lately, the band played a handful of songs from their forthcoming album Kveikur (due out on 6/18) and also touched on almost every release in their catalog. Their headlining performance was heavy on 2005's Takk..., but no complaints there as "Hoppípolla," "Sæglópur," and "Glósóli" garnered ecstatic reactions from the crowd. A set of pictures from the 4/02 show at UIC Pavilion are in this post, along with a couple of videos and the full setlist.

As discussed, Sigur Ros are touring North America throughout March // April of 2013. That tour includes a Chicago show at the UIC Pavilion on April 2. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Saturday (11/17) at 10AM CST. A Sigur Ros fan presale will be active this morning (Wednesday, November 14) at 10AM CST; the password is brennisteinn. Each ticket comes with a three-song digital EP, one of which is "Brennisteinn," of brand new material! That EP will be made available to ticket holders on March 22, 2013, just in time to drill the new material into your head for the Chicago show. In addition to Sigur Ros' fan presale, there may even be a JAM Productions presale later this week, so stay tuned.

Sigur Ros have announced a North American tour, which is set to take place in March and April of 2013. That tour includes a Chicago stop at the UIC Pavilion on April 2. Tickets go on sale this Saturday (11/17) at 10AM CST. Stay tuned for presale information.

At this year's Iceland Airwaves Festival, the band debuted a new song, called "Brennisteinn." Check out some live footage of that song at the bottom of this post. They've also premiered a video for Valtari's title track today via Nowness. Check out the clip over at BrooklynVegan.

Lollapalooza 2011 (more by Grant MacAllister)

Especially if you're in Chicago, you may have started to notice "#LOLLA" ads, like this one (which references lyrics from Santigold's "L.E.S. Artistes")...

As CoS points out, across the web and CTA public transit system, there have been sightings of ads just like the above for Jack White, Sigur Ros(!), Justice, The Weeknd, Bloc Party, M83, Die Antwoord, Twin Shadow, The Shins, The Black Keys, The Big Pink, Wale, Washed Out, and Kimbra. Those are just some of the artists rumored to be playing the festival that takes place from August 3-5 in Grant Park.

As mentioned, Lollapalooza's initial lineup will be revealed on April 11. Time TBA.

What about reunited band of the moment At The Drive-In? Time will tell if we get them at Lolla, but meanwhile you can get your Omar Rodriguez-Lopez fix with Le Butcherettes, who visit Chicago for two shows in early-June. He's now a full-time member of that band.

Lets start by quoting a Brooklynvegan post from about a month back:

...speaking of Sigur Rós, they recently put a trailer video on their website for the film INNI, which will screen at the Venice Film Festival. The film was directed by Vincent Morisset, who also directed the Arcade Fire film Mirror Noir. Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi is also set to score Cameron Crowe's upcoming film We Bought a Zoo. Cameron and Sigur Ros last worked together when the band contributed music to his 2001 film Vanilla Sky.

Chicago's CIMM (Chicago International Movies & Music), who have their own Fest coming up in April, have joined with Lincoln Hall for an early and late showing on November 15th. Tickets just recently went on sale.
