Chelsea Wolfe @ Lincoln Hall in August (more by Zach Pollack)

As mentioned, the 2013 edition of Tomorrow Never Knows is slated to take place from January 16-20 at venues throughout the city. More acts have now been added to the festival, some to existing shows and some as brand new events.

One of those brand new shows is the stacked lineup of Chelsea Wolfe, The Amazing, and King Dude at Schubas on January 19. Ms. Wolfe made her Chicago debut at Lincoln Hall this summer, and recently released the great Unknown Rooms: A Collection Of Acoustic Songs via Sargent House. She's got an electric, full-band album coming soon. Sweden's The Amazing welcomed their Gentle Stream LP last month in the US via Partisan Records. They're currently supporting Tame Impala on tour and will be in Chicago on November 13 to play Metro. King Dude (aka TJ Cowgill) released his new album, Burning Daylight, in October via DAIS. He'll embark on a North American tour this weekend, which is set to reach Chicago on December 12 for a performance at the Empty Bottle. Tickets for Chelsea Wolfe, The Amazing, and King Dude go on sale this Friday (11/9) at noon CST.

The other new show will be headlined by San Francisco's Geographer, and is taking place at Schubas on January 20. Tickets for that show are also going on sale this Friday at noon CST.

Hundred Waters, who recently played Schubas with Julia Holter, have been added to Freelance Whales' January 19 show at Lincoln Hall with Snowmine. Advance tickets are still available.

As mentioned, The Walkmen, who played Metro as part of TNK 2012, will be playing the Vic with Father John Misty on January 18. That show is now part of Tomorrow Never Knows, with limited availability for 5-Day Pass holders. Speaking of 5-day passes, they are still available.

Stay tuned for more Tomorrow Never Knows 2013 updates.

The Walkmen @ NYC's Terminal 5 earlier this month (more by Gretchen Robinette)

The Walkmen have announced a string of 2013 North American tour dates featuring support from Father John Misty. That tour currently spans the latter half of January, and will reach Chicago on January 18 for a performance at the Vic Theatre. Tickets for that show are not on sale yet, but check JAM Productions' website for updates.

Along with this string of tour dates, The Walkmen have shared a pair of live videos from their NYC record release show for Heaven at Bowery Ballroom. La Blogotheque filmed the group performing the cuts "Heaven" and "Heartbreaker," and you can watch both at the bottom of this post.

Meanwhile, Father John Misty is here and plays an in-store at Saki Records with The Orwells at 6PM tonight. That in-store is free, but you might want to get there early as space is very limited. FJM also plays a sold-out show at Lincoln Hall this Tuesday. Do you have tickets?

The Walkmen

On Saturday night (1/14), The Walkmen played one of three 10th anniversary shows at Chicago's Metro as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows 2012 festival. The band performed two sets, the first of which drew heavily from their debut LP, Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone, which they just released on vinyl for the very first time. Fan-favorites like "The Rat," "On the Water," and "In The New Year" made their way onto the setlist along with a slew of new tracks, some of which were played solo and acoustic by frontman Hamilton Leithauser.

Thanks to Brian Emerick, you can stream and/or download audio from the entire show!

The Walkmen @ Chicago Theatre (more by Josh Darr)

NYC's The Walkmen are getting ready to celebrate 10-years together as a band, and have announced a few special performances to observe their newfound status. For Chicago, this means a January 14th show at Metro, which is actually part of Tomorrow Never Knows 2012 (more on that later). At the moment only five-day passes are on sale. but there will be tickets for the event that are separate from that shortly. Tickets for just this show go on sale Saturday (11/12), at noon CST.

The band are currently working on a new album, and will enter the studio later this month with producer Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Modest Mouse). What comes out of those sessions will tentatively be released this coming summer via Fat Possum/Bella Union.

In even more decade celebration news, The Walkmen will also be reissuing their debut LP Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone on vinyl for the first time in awhile. You can pre-order a copy now.

Insound says:

This is an extremely limited repress of the band's debut full-length album which has been out of print on vinyl for years! Only 1000 records pressed! Limit one per customer. Once these are gone, they are gone forever.
You can view all 2011 tour dates below..

Fleet Foxes

This past weekend, on both Friday (9/30) and Saturday night (10/1), Fleet Foxes and The Walkmen played the Chicago Theatre.

Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot was in attendance:

In the last year, the band has toughened up as an instrumental force, stepping into bigger spaces with canny use of dynamics - from near-stillness to stirring crescendos. They affirmed that prowess at the Pitchfork Music Festival last July, commanding Union Park in a far different way than they had in 2008 when the performance was all about their hushed interplay and stunning vocal harmonies.

On Friday, the lustrous counterpoint vocal melodies that first established the band's reputation were once again at the forefront. A cappella harmonies are a rare thing at many rock concerts - most bands don't have the firepower or the confidence to pull them off consistently. But they're a crucial part of Fleet Foxes' arsenal, producing a half-dozen moments when the audience seemed to hold its collective breath as the sextet's voices turned the theater into a cathedral.

More pictures of both acts and Friday's setlist are below..

In related news, they've just added a September 30th stop at the Chicago Theatre onto their growing list of 2011 dates. Support will come from The Walkmen, who they'll be spending all of September on the road with.

Pre-sale tickets will be available this Friday, from 10AM to 10PM CST.
