Reckless Records' Wicker Park shop (more by Milos Markicevic)
18

According to DNA Info, Reckless Records CEO Charles Taylor purchased a two-story building at 1379 North Milwaukee Avenue for $1,580,000 on December 30, 2013. The new spot, which is just two-blocks from their current location of 1532 North Milwaukee Avenue, will boast 15,000 square feet of retail space including the basement. Reckless general manager Bryan Smith reports that there is at least one-year remaining on their existing lease, so don't expect the move to be immediate. A multi-level Reckless Wicker Park sounds pretty great, no?

Wicker Park Fest - 7/27/2013

From their humble start nine years ago, Wicker Park Fest has grown to not only boast three stages, but also draw one of the most intriguing crowds. Festivalgoers, some of whom where dressed to the nines, packed the streets and a lucky few even utilized rooftops for an improved vantage point. You've already seen pictures from Day 1 (Part I & Part II) and some from Day 2, and here are the rest. They continue after the jump...

Wicker Park Fest - 7/27/2013
Wicker Park Fest - 7/27/2013

Unseasonably chilly weather and beefed-up security led to a calm Wicker Park Fest, though gate donations appeared to be down.

"The problem is people don't pay [the suggested donation]. This fest probably has the lowest percentage of any fest in the city for paying," said Tom Murphy of Big Creek Productions, one of three of companies which books music talent for the annual fest.

"For whatever reason, the people here [in Wicker Park] have just decided they are antidisestablishmentarians," he said. "They don't like the man." [DNAinfo Chicago]

Whether they paid or not, Wicker Park Fest brings out a diverse crowd. Attendance was thin in the early afternoon on both days (gates opened at noon and music started at 2PM), but the "antidisestablishmentarians" packed the street fest grounds by the time 6PM rolled around. You've already seen part one of our WPF day one pictures and here's part two, the people...

Forbes, known for lists like "the 400 richest Americans", has released a list of "America's Hippest Hipster Neighborhoods". Wicker Park got #4 (almost as hip as Williamsburg, Brooklyn which played #3), but Logan Square oddly isn't in there. Maybe their research is every so slightly outdated. Forbes says:

The Midwest Mecca of hipsterdom started attracting artists and young adults in the late 1980s. Nestled around a park, this artists' community is known for its galleries, music venues, boutiques and food options. It's also home to a smattering of Victorian mansions built by wealthy 19th century merchants and beer brewers.
Check out the full list of 10 neighborhoods, which also includes East Austin, at BrooklynVegan.

As mentioned, Do Division Street Festival is set to take place from June 1-3 in Wicker Park. The first bands to be announced for the fest are Le Butcherettes, O'Death, and Murder by Death. Le Butcherettes also play Subterranean on June 1.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for more lineup additions.

Wicker Park's annual Do Division Street Festival is set to take place June 1-3 on Division Street, between Damen and Leavitt. As in past years, there will be a huge sidewalk sale, tons of food, and great bands.

The 2011 festival featured Big Freedia, A Place To Bury Strangers, Omar Souleyman, Thao & Mirah, and more. Stay tuned for this year's lineup.

Admission is open, with a suggested donation policy.
